Joanna Rupp, CFA
Assistant Vice President, Managing Director of Private Equity

Joanna is the managing director of the $2.8 billion private equity portfolio for the University’s endowment. She joined the University in 2001 as the manager of public equities, and in 2004 she became the chief operating officer, leading the department through significant growth and change. Joanna then served as the managing director of pensions from 2009-2012 and supervised comprehensive revisions to the defined benefit plan’s investment processes.

Prior to her work with the University, Joanna was a vice president with Security Capital Markets Group from 1997 to 2000. Before that, she was a member of the municipal finance group at Goldman Sachs, and she was an asset/liability manager for U.S. Central Credit Union, working within their fixed income division.

Joanna is a trustee of the University of Kansas endowment and serves on its investment committee. She also is the past board president of Deborah’s Place, a Chicago-based not-for-profit, and currently serves on its finance committee.

Joanna earned an MBA, cum laude, in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BS in business administration from the University of Kansas. She is a CFA Charterholder and a Kauffman Fellow, Class ’21.
